Who Are We?

Full Plates, Mix Tape, Vol. 2
Dj Maj
Gotee

Gotee recording artists DJ Maj is a versatile individual with many talents; scratch percussionist, radio personality, producer, and performer. His calling is to set a tone for what is going on in hip hop music both Christian and Mainstream. With his mix tape collections DJ Maj brings the underground above ground. The idea of Full Plates is that we are what we eat and we are also the body of Christ as it states within Romans, chapter 12. So what we let into our bodies and minds is important. DJ Maj's prayer is that he will be able to transform people to the body of Christ through the power hitters on this record.

What is a mix tape you ask?

Well Gotee records describes it as a collection of individual tracks blended together by a DJ who, often hosting the mix, cuts-in other sound effects and beats to create a seamless, continuous flow of music.

So what makes DJ Maj a credible witness?Dj Maj

DJ Maj explains his Christian conversion as a slow process of eliminating the "religious" activities and actually living the life. He had been going to church and had even said the sinners prayer, initially for insurance. Eventually DJ Maj witnessed others around him who were living a real Christian life with much joy and he started to ask himself some very difficult questions, like "why isn't my life producing fruit." DJ Maj then submitted his life to the lordship of Christ. DJ Maj also quoted that Christian hip hop made a significant effect on his life. Ah ha! There it is, a struggling youth, seeking for truth, finding help in the lyrics and rhythms of hip hop!

So now that DJ Maj is committed to lordship I asked him how do we get others to follow? How do we as a body of Christ reach the youth?

DJ Maj explained that kids love hip hop music but their not buying Christian hip hop for several reasons. One being that some Christian hip hop is not creative enough or real enough to grab their attention. For the Christian youth DJ Maj challenges them to evangelize as we are called to do, "sharing the faith is in the DNA of Christ." DJ Maj believes that he delivers the tools they need to go out and fight with confidence. I would say that even for the parents, Christian hip hop is a tool for evangelizing. DJ Maj states, "whether its our flavor or not it can definitely be used to influence somebody else."

Full Plates: Mix Tape, Vol 2

Because of the nature of the mix tape the listener is exposed to a variety of artists. The powerhouse track that jumps out at me is "Spirit Moves" with Out of Eden a perfect mix of R & B and Rap. If you can't feel the spirit move in you, turn it up, the rhythm will eventually get you moving. My personal favorite is "Party Right" featuring Cory Red, mostly because it narrates that having a good time is not wrong as long as we keep in mind the suffering Christ endure so we have that freedom.

Overall Full Plates contains dynamic raps mixed with rhythm and backed up with DJ Maj's scratches, cross fades, and drop ins. Lyrically its non-ofensive and biblical, and at the same time in touch with the hip hop generation.

On Tour

DJ Maj is currently out on the road with the Plus One Tour. In closing our conversation he requested that people remember the Christian artists in their prayers, especially when they are on the road. Maj said that there are many challenges on the road, including being away from family. He also stated that Plus One, Stacie Orrico, and Rachael Lampa are doing good things for the Kingdom, and there has been great times of devotions prior to the shows.

You can also hear DJ Maj on the radio. The Maj hosts a one hour program called Virtual Frequency. Check out the web site at www.virtualfrequency.com and see if there is a station near you that carries it.
