Come Together and Worship The Wisconsin State Journal reported that the "Come Together and Worship" concert was the fastest selling show during the recent months, selling faster than John Mellencamp, Cher, Counting Crows, and Creed! (Sunday, November 17, 2002) Michael W. Smith, Third Day, and Max Lucado packed the house with approximately 9000 bodies. Much controversy has followed the concert concerning its primary sponsor Chevrolet. During the concert the sponsor was more or less non-existent. If there was even a booth or signs near the merchandise tables I completely missed them. Max Lucado briefly mentioned Chevy and praised them for being willing to sponsor the event. The concert was as much of a worship service as it could be. Distractions were few but present; screaming fans - "Michael! Michael!" and some moments that were rocking harder than your everyday Sunday service, like when M.W.S. kicked off his personal set with Chris Tomlin's "The Noise We Make. Yet it was evident though that all performers were trying to keep the focus on worship by providing on screen lyrics and encouraging crowd participation. It was a blessing to be witness to such an event and God willing this will be the start of something big in the Madison area. The fast selling tickets and the numbers show a hunger for Christian events like this. - Ken W. |
