![]() David Phelps Spring Hill Music David Phelps, a member of the Gaither Vocal Band, recently released a self-titled CD, “ David Phelps,” letting his individual talents shine. The songs on Phelps’s solo debut are ones very dear to his heart, as he believes they represent the very essence of who he is. “David Phelps” is a powerful tool, which can reach parts of the listener’s soul as it leads his/her heart towards a time of worship ad glorification of God. David’s goal of bringing the listener to a point of “experiencing” God is reached through his powerful voice, which is shown through his very expansive range. Some songs are empowering by the upbeat band, vocals, and texts, which exalt our God. Other songs are meant to soothe the soul, encourage, and comfort by leaving the listener feeling “wrapped” in the arms of our Heavenly Father. Phelps accomplishes this through the use of his expressive, softer musical style, and his inspiring, driving style to take the listener to a new level of worship. Favorites include, “Fly Again” because the text is so powerful especially after knowing the origin of it. Phelps had a friend who battled cancer, but who was comforted by the thought of “flying again” once he went to be in eternity. Phelps’s voice brought me to tears as he sang with a heart full of love and encouragement for all of us. Also, “Someone Who Cares” because of the totally different approach used both instrumentally and vocally. The beginning acoustic and vocal technique is a total change and is refreshing even after his other fine music on the CD. -Amanda M. |
