Linda McKechnie, a concert pianist after many years of being a freelance musician, has built a successful career which led her to be nominated for a Dove Award in 2000 for Best Instrumental Album. “Rhapsody of Love,” was inspired by the search for wedding music for her daughter’s wedding. During that process, McKechnie noticed the need for music that is “reverent and expressive of love.” McKechnie accomplished her goal quite well. “Rhapsody of Love” helps the listener to be reflective of God’s love, and be able to praise God while listening to the soothing sounds of the Don Marsh Orchestra and McKechnie. The blending of traditional and contemporary Christian music with classical music is a mix that gives a new twist to familiar melodies. The music does not “pump up” Christians, but rather it is music that lends itself to worship in a quiet, peaceful way. Favorites include, “Shine on Us” because of the gorgeous opening which uses Liszt’s “Liebestraum” in the piano alone. As the orchestra gradually enters, Deborah and Michael W. Smith’s “ Shine On Us” is intertwined with the classical piece. Very emotional and inspiring. Also, “Wedding Song” with Beethoven’s “Moonlight Sonata” interspersed within the Wedding Song melody enhances both of these two popular melodies. -Amanda M.
