Who Are We?

The Noise We Make
Chris Tomlin
Sparrow Records

Before you even begin to talk about the contents of this CD you have to take a moment to reflect on Chris' following statement.

What does it matter if we make great songs and sell a lot of records but fail in our relationship? Apart from serving and loving other people, what does any of the rest of this matter? The larger our platform becomes, the more intentionally we have to focus on the heart of our calling: to introduce people to God and show them His Glory.

So at a time when Modern Praise music is selling like hot cakes how is the buyer to know who is real? Lets take a closer look at Chris Tomlin and his music.

Chris has a history of involvement in the praise and worship movement. He has been directly involved with the Passion Movement, and some of his songs have been featured n Passion CD's as well as WOW 2001, the upcoming WOW Worship, and the One Day Project.

Chris prefers to think of himself as a "lead worshiper" and not a "worship leader". Realizing that we all need to worship God and were all on the same level. From what I've read Chris wants to maintain a focus on God and not himself or his music.

So what about the music? The title track is first on the CD and it calls for volume, a lot of volume! This is an amazing song that stirs emotions and inspires praise in a big way. Leaving the listener feeling that he needs to shout praises and make noise. Another highlight is "America" which Chris wrote for the One Day Celebration in May, 2000. When I listen to this song I think about how fortunate we are to live in a country where religious freedom still exists. Oh yeah, some can argue that the freedoms are less and less everyday, but not to the point that we have to hide in our homes to worship God. Definitely not to the point where we will be imprisoned or murdered for attending Sunday worship.

Overall The Noise We Make is a powerful expression of praise and worship which stirs emotions and encourages the glorification of God.
