"This Is Janet" could have been aptly titled 'Janet Paschal's Variety Show'. This veteran performer has put together a project that is as eclectic as it gets, from pop-country to big band it's all here. A favorite of mine is "The First, The Last", which Janet performs Big Band style, smooth and relaxing. This is a style that is for the most part missing from the mainstream of Christian music. Following this theme is "Jesus Is Mine" a light jazzy tune perfect for that slow dance. "Come On Children" and "It's Lucky We Met" are done in more of a pop-country style, and there is the gratuitous sad country song "It Won't Rain Always." Best of all is "It's Not About Now" because of the feeling of comfort the lyrics bring to the listener. This song is about sharing words of comfort for the grieving at heart. Although labeled as pop-country I believe "This Is Janet" is peppy enough to please any contemporary listener and not just the country music fan. The addition of the big band and light jazz are an added bonus. - Ken W. |
