Reaching Stepping aside from the mainstream, the brother-sister duo known as LaRue have released their third album. "Reaching" is a healthy mix of upbeat and laid back tunes. Poetically styled, yet simplistic God-centered lyrics are a catchy listen. This creative, simplistic style is characteristic of albums under the direction of producer extraordinaire, Monroe Jones. Stepping away from their previous acoustic style, LaRue has changed direction toward a more edgy European (i.e. U2, Travis) sound. Natalie LaRue has a voice of depth and talent; a welcomed mix of voices like Jennifer Knapp and Natalie Merchant. This brother-sister duo uses their music and media-attention to advocate their life style of choice, God's way, that being abstinence. The song "Unite" touches upon the important value of waiting until marriage, as Christ directed. Songs like "Peace to Shine" offer hope and comfort in times of despair. "Everything" is a slow euro-rock style song that encourages dependency on God, not one's self. Reaching is a fun album that is a nice step into the next level of music, for these former teen stars. - Bridget L. |
