Road to Anywhere Humble beginnings, patience and be-lead attitude defines Sittser. Starting in a college dormitory with two acoustic guitars and a two dollar microphone, the group began it's ongoing evolution. Influences like Jars of Clay and Caedmon's Call are evident in their acoustic rock arrangements. In an impromptu phone interview with lead vocalist Tyler Kumakura I was able to get some insight into what makes the band tick. Right now the members of Sittser are kept busy in college pursuing degree's, including Physics, Biology, Religion, and Computer Science. Origins of the band's name seemed a mystery to me at first, until Tyler explained the happen-stance way the name came about. At one of their first shows they still had not decided on a name. When the MC insisted that they have a name they threw out the name of their Religion professor. So now the band has a moral duty to uphold the respected name of this published college professor. With just ten days of studio time Sittser recorded and produced a phenomenal CD. The opening track, "Price of a Past", is about facing the consequences of life. A deep song that is not judgmental but reflective on how the little things really matter, and how this person in the song "could" have had an effect on other people's lives. On the other end of the journey is the closing song and title track "Road To Anywhere." As Tyler explained it, this song embodies where they are at in their lives; "Involved in a million things and taking it one day at a time." Right now the band struggles with the idea of being labeled a "Christian" band. They are all Christians and hold that belief dear and necessary for their existence. They struggle with feelings of "selling it short" by calling themselves a Christian band because not all of their songs reflect on God. Tyler feels that they are still developing and they want to do what God leads them to do. "Road to Anywhere" has that purity and art that is seldom found in major label releases. All things considered, this group of guys has in ten days, and with their own money, put together a professional CD worth treasuring. - Ken W. http://www.mp3.com/sittser |
