Again For the First Time
"Sometimes, a coat of paint serves the purpose. Other times, you have to rip the guts out, draw up some new plans, and rebuild from the ground up." After a three year absence from the recording industry Bleach is back. A new label and new blood joined with veterans Sam Barnhart (guitarist) and Dave Baysinger (vocalist) have opened a new chapter in the life of the band. Bleach was highly successful in the late nineties with "Static" and "Bleach", but the music wasn't refined or polished enough for the pop fad that took off at the time. Now with their new affiliation with Tooth and Nail, members feel more of an artistic freedom to continue with their vision. From what I can tell, the album takes two directions. One is more of a journey of questions and the other is the idea of hope. Hope is delivered in "Knocked Out", "Celebrate", and "We Are Tomorrow". While songs like "Fell Out" and "Broke In The Head" leave questions unanswered, "but any question that can be answered in a three-and-a- half minute rock song may be better left unasked anyway." Personally I'm happy that Bleach has persevered, picking up the pieces, and driving on. Having come to Christ in 2000 I listened to a lot of their earlier music as a replacement to my not-so-christian taste in music. - Ken W. |
