Who Are We?

Lonely Superstar
Playdough
Uprok Records

Remember the old saying about it being lonely at the top? Well I don’t believe that’s what Playdough is portraying here. “Lonely Superstar” is instead a testimony of how God can fill the void of loneliness at all levels of life.

Uncompromising lyrics impart spiritual truths of pursuing God and servant hood. Specifically,“5 cent Needleheads” describes a calling for RAP ministry but a need to support a family. The sound of “Lonely Superstar” is described as “dirty acoustic,” sounding like an old album with static and a certain hollow-echo. The raps are harmonious and smooth, backed up by guitar, jazz, Latin, soul loops and beats.

I’m led to believe that part of the loneliness embedded in this project is the lack of attention, or respect maybe, from the church body for the efforts of rappers like Playdough. “Lonely Superstar” is overflowing with praises to the Lord and encouragement to the listener; it glorifies, edifies, and testifies, a true test of spirit.
