Jeff Deyo The greatest thing about Jeff Deyo is that he has a very unique form of leading worship. The use of worship and a modern-rock soundtrack have worked well for him. On "Light", Deyo does continue to pump up the adrenaline, but not as much as his last release "Saturate." It takes a little longer for this one to make a grove in my musical brain. Deyo fans will certainly be pleased, but his critics will find it easy to work it down. To his credit, Deyo took more of a role in writing this time instead of leaning on powerful remakes. There are also three duo's that are very notable, "Bless the Lord" with Rita Springer, "We Come to Your Throne with Weeping" featuring Mac Powell, and "Keep My Heart" with Natalie Grant. Interlaced again between a few of the tacks are interludes of Deyo giving a mini-sermon. As a fan I'm pleased, but as a critic (I'm just not very critical) I think that "Light" does not reach the level of "Saturate." Check out www.jeffdeyo.com and take a listen. - Ken W. |
