Andrew Carlton Andrew Carlton makes an impressive debut with his record "Flying In." If you liked Steven Curtis Chapman's "Speechless," you'll enjoy this record. There are many strong, up-tempo songs with unambiguous lyrics as Andrew's passion for God shows through. He's written eight of the ten tracks, many of which are inspired by events in his life, but ultimately he takes the listener to Jesus. The title track and radio single "Falling In," is a solid rocker. The song is about placing your life in God's control. The lyric "Your love is the refuge and I'm falling in," seems to be inspired by Hebrews 6: 18-19. The ballad "This Is Faith," is another single. According to Andrew, "I thought God wasn't hearing my prayers. Then I realized that faith is believing in a Savior we can't see and obeying him." A full choir backs Andrew on the final chorus. Opening with a driving acoustic guitar, "I Believe" is a straight-forward statement of faith. The uplifting "Jesus Hold Me" has a great sing-along chorus. Although I could do without the brief vocal distortion, my favorite track is "Shaken" with its John Williams-like guitar and chorus that states, "Shaken, change on the inside." There is no doubt where this artist is coming from, it's a very good Christian record. - Rob S. |
