Who Are We?

Hanson

Joel Hanson
Broken

If you missed its release two years ago, track down Joel Hanson's second solo project "Broken." The former lead singer and guitarist for PFR has put together an excellent record.

According to Joel's self-named web site, the single "Broken" was only the second independent release to crack the Christian radio top-40. That says as much about Joel's talent as it does about the sadly closed world of Christian radio. Cowritten with Rebecca St James, "Broken" is about shattered pride, change and renewal.

"Still Greater" is an up tempo rocker with the rejoiceful lyric "this is love, that you would sacrifice Your only Son to give us life."

"Sing Your Name" is contemplative, almost melancholy but ultimately is about the hope we have in God's love.

"Count The Ways," featuring just Joel's unique vocals and an acoustic guitar, is a tender love song for his wife.

Another favorite track of mine is "Who I Am" with its uplifting chorus based on Exodus 3:14 . God is unswerving, transcending yet capable of changing us.

The last song on the record, "Thanks Be To God," is appropriate for church.

An excellent record from an outstanding talent.
