Big Daddy Weave This is one of the few new CDs of mine that I'm willing to play over and over. One of the components that sets Big Daddy Weave apart from other Christian bands is the sax playing of Joe Shirk, which really soars on "Pharisee." It gives Big Daddy Weave a sound at times reminiscent of the E Street Band. I would also make a favorable comparison between Big Daddy Weave and Mercy Me. There isn't a clinker on this record. The opening track, "Set Me Free," reminds me of Romans 5:8 as the song is about the freedom we have from the chains of sin as paid for by Christ. "New Every Morning" follows a similar theme. One of my favorite tracks is the joyful "Fields of Grace" and its ecumenical verse "there's a place where religion finally dies." The lyrics seem to be inspired by Ephesians 2:8 and Titus 3:5. Another favorite is "Everything You Are," perhaps inspired by 2 Corinthians 8:9 with the verse "You left heaven's throne. . . ." While I wish the band would include its Biblical inspirations for its songs, this record is highly recommended. - Rob S. |
