Shane & Shane

“Clean”

Inpop Records

11 tracks @ 40:35

While some artists can take years between new projects, this acoustic duo has another new project out in about a year.

“Saved by Grace” has a call and respond chorus, along with an interesting tempo shift. One of the verses goes, “What a beautiful day when he washed our sin away.”

The group's PR material says the song “Fringes” is inspired by Job 26. The first line of the song says, “He stretches out over the north over empty space and hangs the earth on nothing. . .but these are but the fringes of His ways.” As Shane Everett says, “We (the human race) just figure stuff out-we don't come up with anything new.”

You may have heard the duo's remake of Twila Paris' “He Is Exalted” on the radio. Shane Barnard says he's played that song every week of his Christian existence. Somewhere I read that this is an “amped-up” version of the song. I disagree, but its pleasing, nonetheless.

“You & I” is more electrified along the lines of adult contemporary pop. “Yearn” could become a new church-appropriate worship song.

“God Did” includes an intriguing lyric many of us could relate to, “at least on the outside I put on my best side.”

If you have their previous disk or like the music of Monk & Neagle, this new record will fit right in.
