Day of Fire Self-Titled Essential Records
Day of Fire is a crossover success story, but not in the conventional sense that most Christian artist are thinking. Day of Fire's Joshua Brown was once a successful mainstream rocker in a band known as Full Devil Jacket. Joshua had it all: money, MTV coverage, huge tours, and groupies. He also had a strong addiction to heroin, which eventually landed him in rehab. That's where Joshua finally found the one thing that has given him the most peace and happiness in his life - where he met God and the saving grace of Jesus Christ. After rehab, Joshua tried to live a godly life, but he was still involved with the band Full Devil Jacket. He found it increasingly difficult to live both lives, and in the middle of recording his second album, he called it quits.
After a two year hiatus, Joshua met a friend and fellow believer, Gregg Hionis, and together, they began writing music. With their lives and spiritual gifts completely devoted to the work of Christ, they quickly found doors opening for them.
Brown and Hionis flew off to California to hook up with an LA producer in order to make a rock album that would blow your socks off, and at the same time deliver the message of the gospel. The result of that trip is their self-titled debut, “Day of Fire”. This album is very well produced and is upfront a superior rock album. The music grabbed my attention right away. When I began to read the lyrics, however, I was really turned on to what they were doing. God has plans for these guys, and He's going to use their past history to reach out to people where they stand, which is not usually in the church.
Several of the songs that stand out are “Cornerstone”, which Josh describes as the “passion” of the whole record, and “To Fly”, a song that reaches out to the seeker and the wanderer. To describe it a little further, I'd say its high energy rock music, driven by blistering guitars and blazing vocals. In some respects, it reminds me a little of Jonah33 (Ardent Records).
Overall, the Day of Fire debut is an excellent well produced rock album, but more importantly, it carries an encouraging message of trust, hope, and salvation through Christ.
