Sharlok Poems

Sharlok Poems

The Movement

Gotee

Sharlok Poems is what I would consider to be an intellectual rapper, and his name clearly defines his craft. Poems, also a member of the hip-hop collective L.A. Symphony, dishes up some catchy tunes on his solo release “The Movement”.

There are some very serious topics on the album, like the slam “Dead Beat Dad” that lifts up mothers whose men have ditched them. The song relates to the troubles these mothers go through trying to be the sole provider for their family, and it offers them some encouragement. There is also some brutal commentary in regards to false emcee's on “California Lyricists”.

Musically the album is very laid back as the loops and beats are moderate and the focus relies heavily on the Sharlok's lyrical abilities. I couldn't find much information online about Sharlok Poems individually, but fans of L.A. Symphony will be well familiar with his styles. If you're not, you can do some research on LAS and see if Poems is an emcee you'd like to know more about.
