Poor Man's Riches Energy Word of Mouth Records
My first impression of “Energy” was such that I immediately moved it up a full editorial schedule, just so I could share it with you all sooner. Hailing from Lawrenceburg , KY , this post-grunge/modern rock band will knock your socks off. Poor Man's Riches fits categorically with bands like Kutless and Seventh Day Slumber, all of which produce a potent rock punch equaled with a powerful gospel message.
It was however, the opening riffs that first seized my attention. I quickly scanned through the CD and found that it consistently rocked. The dominant guitar soundtrack pleased me the initially, but the passionate vocals and eventual discovery of Gospel focused lyrics impressed me further. “Energy”, “Break Me”, “For the Taking”, “Wheels of Disbelief” and “Motions” stand out the most, but there isn't a bad track on the whole CD.
Like any good rock band, Poor Man's Riches does not leave out the complimentary ballad; “Praise You”. The vocals on “Praise You” cry out to God. Praising Him for everything from the blowing wind to the laughter of a child.
In days gone by I was a huge fan of bands like Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, and Nirvana. With much of that in the past, it's awesome to find healthy alternatives like Kutless, Seventh Day Slumber, and now, Poor Man's Riches. In 2003, Christianity Today named Poor Man's Riches as one of the Ten Independent Artists You Should Know. It's almost been two years later, and I would suggest that if you have not heard Poor Man's Riches yet, don't wait another two years to discover them. - Ken W. |
