Kara Williamson
Undisguised
INO Records

Kara Williamson is another recent addition to the INO lineup which includes other female artists like Sara Groves and Darlene Zschech. Kara is one part rocker, one part pop, and one part worship. She is a welcomed voice that’s fresh and exciting. She boldly starts Undisguised with a bouncy rock tune titled “Bring It On,” and then subtly moves into a more worshipful “Where You Are”.

Singing was a big part of Kara’s life growing up, and the experience shows in her vocal abilities. As far as her writing skills go, she’s credited with co-writing many of the tracks on the debut. Even if that was a small part, there was still a great selection of songs picked for the album that seem to fit her style perfectly. There is a lot of depth and meaning to the songs; particularly on the worship song “O Wounded King”. The only track that I found odd is “Love Is For Always”, a stylish pop-rock tune that includes a guitar track right from The Romantics “Talking In Your Sleep”. It’s an awesome song, but I’m not sure where that little sampling fits in.

Kara’s bubbly vocals, and the cheery vibe of the album overall, makes Undisguised a significant release for the start of 2005. I’m very optimistic that Kara Williamson will find herself right at home with her veteran female label-mates.
