Chris Rice “Snapshots” should have been album #2 in a 2 CD set of Chris Rice’s greatest hits. It was less than a year ago when Rocketown released “Short Term Memories”, which was also a collection of Rice’s greatest hits. I certainly respect that Chris Rice has earned acclaim with each original release, and especially as Rocketown’s flagship artist, but I can’t help but feel this is a contractual obligation masked with marketing tactics – “Fan Favorites”. The first portion of the CD (6 Tracks) contain live tracks that with the addition of four more live tracks would have made a more respectable CD. However the final 9 tracks are an assortment of songs from various releases like the VegieTales Jonah soundtrack and Rocketown collections like “Exodus”. There are also two instrumentals from Rice’s “Living Room Sessions”. Honestly, it’s my sinfully-selfish character that’s shining though in this review. Rice has always made his fans wait for new material, and when he finally delivers, it’s phenomenal. For now I’ll enjoy the live recordings and wait for Rice to make his next step, hopefully with Rocketown. - Ken W. |
