Jacky Clark-Chisholm Jacky Clark-Chisholm is a member of the trailblazing gospel group The Clark Sisters. This is her first solo record and it’s a winner. Overall, this record is in the urban gospel sound. Clark-Chisholm says, “People need to meditate on their personal relationship with God and praise Him for His goodness. It is my prayer that the words of these songs will bless and heal people.” This record delivers. “Oil of God” and “Holy” follows a similar musical approach, opening with spoken word and a full gospel choir accompaniment. In the record’s PR materials, “Oil of God” is described as “The oil of God saves and delivers us to fulfill His purpose.” “Blessing Me,” featuring The Clark Sisters, is a rousing number while “My Soul Says Yes” and “This Is The Day” have an almost disco-like feel. “Blessing Me” is inspired by Psalm 34:8, “Oh taste and see that God is good.” “I Have Decided,” a duet with Ron Winans, strikes a nice balance between an understated piano and its other instrumentation. The final track, “Bye Bye,” is a tribute to Jacky’s mother, Dr. Mattie Moss Clark. If I have one quibble with the record it is its use of black text and white border on a light purple background. This makes the linear notes almost impossible to read. - Rob S. |
