Anointed Anointed has followed a career arc similar to Avalon in that the group has gone through several line-up changes. However, whenever a member has left Anointed for a new path, the group’s numbers have decreased. Now down to Steve Crawford and his sister Da’dra Crawford Greathouse, Anointed releases its sixth record, second as a duo. “Now is the Time” is a very solid effort, blending R&B, pop and gospel. “Mighty Long Way” has a redemptive theme; “I don’t live as I used to live before,” while “Now That I’m Free” is about growth; “I’ll never trust again the voice that tells me to just give in.” The 7:15 minute remake of the Andrae Crouch classic “Jesus is Lord” features snazzy horns and a rousing gospel choir. In the record’s PR material, the Crawfords say that Crouch was the first artist they ever listened to. Da’dra says, “When he came in and recorded his vocals, it was one of the highlights of our career.” ”Eternal Life,” penned by Steve Crawford, has an intriguing blend of classical and gospel styles. Lyrically, the song embodies the foundation of their faith. I actually preferred the remix of the current radio single “Gonna Lift Your Name.” Maybe it was the cowbell. - Rob S. |
