The Roosevelts There is a lot of good music hiding out on the fringes of CCM. Once in awhile good fortune, or providence, leads to discovery. My most recent discovery was dropped in my mail box a few weeks ago; The Roosevelts. The Roosevelts are a three piece indie-rock band from the Tennessee area. The band started on the local scene back in 1998 and more recently began touring nationally in 2002. Their sound is part Emo-Rock, somewhat guitar driven, but not guitar-dominant; very melodic and catchy. There is an interesting track titled “Struthio Camelus”, which I believe is the scientific name for an Ostrich. That explains a lot about why there is an Ostrich with his head stuck in the ground on the cover of the CD. In some way this song must represent how we go through life with our head stuck in the ground – oblivious. The overall theme of the album is about growing up and lifes changes. There is more up to date and personal information on the bands “My Space” web site than the official site http://www.myspace.com/theroosevelts. If you’re not privy to Indie radio then this is a great place to begin your own discovery. - Ken W. |
