Krystal Meyers Meyers’ self-titled debut has me split right down the middle. I love the young ladies spirit and positive message, but she’s been produced as a general market pop star clone, with comparisons to Avril Lavigne flying all over the place. The album itself is well produced musically. The riffs and chorus’ are very catchy. Lyrically, the content of the songs are fitting for the teen age pop/rock market, which are her peers. Unfortunately, it’s hard to get past the distraction of the similarities to Avril. There is potential in Meyer’s writing, as she has co-written many of these songs with producer Ian Eskelin. The messages are not very deep, but at sixteen years of age she has a connection with those who need to hear it. Notably, Meyers has also incorporated a platform of anti-conformity which encourages people to not conform to the worlds standards, but to be transformed by the will of God as it states in Romans 12:2. For now, even though she just debuted, I’m going to be waiting to see where she goes next. With her voice and developing writing skills, there has to be more originality than what was brought through on this CD. - Ken W. |
