Barlow Girl

Barlow Girl
Another Journal Entry
Fervent Records

I’m really sorry to say that I was not overly impressed with Another Journal Entry. I had high expectations after seeing the Barlow Girl on tour with Todd Agnew. I had thoroughly enjoyed their concert and particularly their message to young ladies. However, I didn’t find that same excitement in their latest release.

Further considering that Barlow Girl were the best selling New Artist of 2004, and they ratcheted up all types of accolades, I was expecting more. That’s not to say that there are not some good points. The opening track, “Grey,” is a rocking good start to the CD, and the ballad “Porcelain Heart” is heartening. To their credit, the Barlow girls did much of the writing, except for two remakes.

The Barlow sisters have a lot of competition in their market, and for me, Another Journal Entry, just does not stand out of the crowd. I guess, in the end, if I had to choose, I would rather buy a few of the tracks out of the iTunes store, instead of laying out the money for the whole album.
