The Evereadys This old-school gospel quartet can trace its roots back to 1950 when the great R&B singer Jackie Wilson was a member. Today’s line-up consists of brothers Jerome and Freddie Williams (who have been in the group since 1967), Marvin Reed and Aaron Beasley. This is the first new Evereadys recording in 13 years and its very pleasingly modern. “Make a Way” is an uplifting modern gospel song of encouragement with horns. “How Long” has a more R&B flavor with light harmonies. “Go With Jesus” is a joyous tune with some call and respond. The overall simple arrangements allow the voices to stand out. “Can’t Hurry” reminded me a bit of Earth Wind and Fire. “Blessing Will Come” has a pinch of country flavor. Don’t be put off by the variety of musical styles as it works. Lyrically the songs tend to revolve around the themes of hope and encouragement. Let’s hope its not another 13 years before we hear from the Evereadys again. - Rob S. |
