Addison Road This five member Dallas-based independent band releases an EP of six new songs. If you remember the band Clear, you’ll like this music. The music is targeted toward youth (the group received a 2004 American Christian Music Award nomination for Modern/College Rock Song of the Year) but the songs deal with themes that many adults can relate to, as well. During 2004, the group led worship for 13 weeks at a Christian camp in Florida while also serving as the Sunday morning praise leaders for a church in Texas. Lead singer Jenny Simons says that resulted in a certain degree of burnout. “At times just because of how tired we were, we actually became miserable. What were we really doing this all for? Were we even passionate any more?” According to the group’s PR material, those questions culminated in the songwriting sessions for this record. Rather than being depressing, there’s a sense of rejuvenation present. The title track is very buoyant while “Wait” centers on accountability and patience. “Need You Now” is about how we need to rely on God, “I’ve been trying to win, Trying to fend for myself way too long.” Other lyrics tend to be on the generic side. The band has launched an interactive street team, called the “Roadies.” - Rob S. |
