Falling Up Typically, I like to avoid anything that I believe is getting too much hype. For me, that meant that I didn’t give the sophomore release from Falling Up a fair shake out of the box (or CD case in this instance). However, I found that in the right context, much of the hype was justified. And the right context just happens to be “loud”! Although I wouldn’t consider the sound to be “radical” as the press release states, the bands combination of progressive rock and melodic vocals really makes it easy to take pleasure in. My two favorites so far are “Contact” and “Exit Calypsan” both songs are perfect examples of Falling Up’s redeeming qualities. Also on “Contact” the evident addition of keys is most prevalent. So after putting the hype aside, I have to agree that “Dawn Escapes” is a very solid album. With no fear of a sophomore slump, and the progressiveness that is building from album to album, Falling Up is positioned to become a leader in their respective genre. - Ken W. |
