Project 86 I want to start with a disclaimer first of all, stating that this is the first time that I have reviewed a Project 86 CD. I’ve listened to some of their previous material, but nothing more. So my experience with the band is limited. I tell you this because I’m totally hyped by the new CD, and yet I hear from fans that it’s not as good as their previous work. For my part, I don’t really care. I think one thing is certain, the CD rocks hard. Part of the reason I didn’t get into them before was that I thought it was too hard for my taste. So either I must have adapted to their style, or the band has mellowed a little and now, and they appeal to a wider base. Anyway you look at it, the new CD is amazing. I think it would be safe to credit some of the excitement to the bands desire to renew their calling as musicians. The official Project86.com website outlines the bands desire to renew their commitment. Lyrically the new songs are challenging and unless you dig for the meanings you may be left wondering. For instance the very cool opener “Sincerely, Ichabod,” although it sounds great, the meaning escaped me until I read about it on the official site. I found that to be the case with most of the songs and personally, I think it’s a good thing to have to dig. It shows that more effort was put into the songwriting and that the album is very personal. Check it out… and the rest will follow… - Ken W. |
