Phil Driscoll
“Drops of Praise”
Studio 25 Recordings
19 tracks @ 75:57

This is the first new work from the Grammy winner since 1999. He’s released approximately 15 records during his career. Fans of the late Ron Winans will like this disk.

The exuberant “Capital” sounds like a younger Billy Preston. The first single “I Will Dance,” is more soul-oriented. “Great Reward” is gospel-flavored. “Beyond the Sunset” features full orchestration and may remind some of the later work of the great Mahalia Jackson.

Most of the arrangements are generally understated, with piano, bass, drums and the occasional chorus. “You Deserve the Glory” showcases Driscoll’s trumpet, which soars like Maynard Ferguson.
