Anthony Evans “Letting Go” is the sophomore project for Anthony Evans, which marks a distinct change from what has been done before. Instead of fixing on the R&B styling of his debut, Anthony turns towards a heavier blend of pop on this album. Evans’ official start began in 2004 with the release of his debut, however he had previously worked with Kirk Franklin and as the son of Dr. Tony Evans, Anthony has had the opportunity to partner with his father at many conferences. For a contemporary-pop album “Letting Go” has really taken me by surprise. The album is very exciting, and most importantly, the message is clear and relevant. I think that is what I like most about the pop/adult contemporary genre, that there is more emphasis on message; however, Anthony’s latest CD accomplishes this with vigor and style that is not often heard in the entire pop genre. Nothing too negative about pop, but it is usually too laid back for me, and “Letting Go” gets past that ho-hum feeling and really moves me. - Ken W. |
