Sanctus Real Sanctus Real’s third release has received a lot of good reviews. Screeching guitars welcome the listener to the painful “I’m Not Alright,” but the first single from this record concludes that pain “leads me to you.” Iconoclasts will love “The Face of Love.” Even though we’ve seen Christ “portrayed a thousand different ways,” “my heart can see you better than my eyes.” “Don’t Give Up,” “We’re Trying” and “Possibilities” are rockers, but I wish the band rocked-out more. That’s more an issue of taste than anything else. “We’re Trying” is ironically upbeat for a song that explores the reality of who we are, “I believe that nobody is good.” Christians will know where this band is coming from but the record contains no direct mention of God/Jesus, which may turn some Christian listeners off and not necessarily help the non-Christian come to know the source of love that this record revolves around. - Rob S. |
