Jason Morant Jason Morant’s sophomore release “Open,” is a soft melodic and at times lofty and atmospheric worship album, relative of his rich musical background. As before, Morant’s vocals are comparable to that of Chris Martin (Coldplay). Drawing on inspiration from the great city of New Orleans, Morant uses a multi-layered approach with a variety of instruments including strings, piano, horns, and less traditional instruments like the dobro and banjo. Not a lot of the CD stands out when it comes to pulling out favorites. Many of the songs have that same slow ambient feeling and blend together from one track to the other. I would have to say though, that I really enjoy the beautiful “Holy Is The Lord.” This is one track that does especially stand out for me, and the near eight-minute closer “Hosanna.” Both of these tracks have a way of stirring the soul a little more than the others. I would say that as a worship CD, “Open” is suitable for quiet times and deep reflections. You will find that both his Myspace account and his official home page offer enough of a sampling to make your own decision. - Ken W. |
