Kevin Max
“The Imposter”
Northern Records
12 tracks @ 59:58

After an independent release, Kevin Max is back on a California-based record label.  Kevin is the one member of DC Talk whom you haven’t heard a lot from but that may start to change with this record.

I liked the grungy rocker “Jumpstart Your Electric Heart.” For some reason “The Imposter’s Song” reminded me of Pink Floyd’s “The Wall.”  By far the best track is “When He Returns.” With its simple arrangement and instrumentation, primarily a piano, its way different from anything that Kevin’s recorded.

You won’t recognize Kevin’s voice at the beginning of “Fade to Red.”  After a lengthy fadeout, stick around for another four minutes for what in effect is a bonus track.

And while it’s either too early or too late, I highly recommend Kevin’s Christmas record, “Holy Night,” which was released last November.

You can check out three tracks from “The Imposter” at Kevin’s web site:  http://kevinmax.com/.  You can also click on the clever play-on-words “Bored” tool to read some lyrics.
