Travis Cottrell “found” Indelible Creative Group 12 tracks @ 50:05
Some will recognize Travis Cottrell for his work with Beth Moore’s Living Proof Ministries. This is Travis’s solo debut. Travis is a classically-trained vocalist.
While I am not a fan of the Josh Groban-style of pop-opera, many people do enjoy that type of music. I must say that “2000 Years” is an outstanding story song. Written by Kent Hooper and Scott Krippayne, the song is from the perspective of those who walked with Jesus. “In Rest” is appropriately subdued.
“Forevermore (Psalm 145),” has a very pretty arrangement, opening with an oboe and French horn, then builds to a triumph. Musically, the song is inspired by Aaron Copland’s “The Promise of the Living.” Copland is one of my favorite composers.
As to the song itself, Cottrell says, “I wanted the lyrics to just flow, much like scripture does. . .without a standard verse/chorus/verse/chorus pattern. I love God’s promises about passing on his goodness from one generation to another.” It works.
The closing track “God Leads Us Along” successfully marries Cottrell’s Appalachian upbringing with his classical training. I wish I could tell you who the uncredited female vocalist is on this song.
