“Turn Around”

A& M Records

15 tracks @ 55:08

How do I know God exists?  Because God changes lives; including Jonny Lang’s.  At one time in his life Lang hated Christianity.  Lang says this record comes “straight from my heart.”  In “Don’t Stop for Anything,” Lang leaves his previous live behind; “I am sick and tired of this kind of life.”

According to Lang’s PR machine, Lang’s fifth record, “Turn Around” hit number one on Contemporary and Rock/Alternative Christian charts the first week of its release.  A blues guitarist prodigy at 15-years old, Lang has toured with the Rolling Stones, Buddy Guy, Sting, Aerosmith and B.B. King.  Jonny’s voice sounds older than his 27-years.

Christian-gospel-blues is an interesting hybrid.  Some of Lang’s best playing on this disk can be found on the title track, “Turn Around.” It has a chain-gang feel during the open and an extended arena-rock solo.  “Anything’s Possible” has some cool guitar wah-wah going for it.  “Thankful” features a wonderful duet with Michael McDonald, along with an old-school gospel choir.
