Robert Randolph and the Family Band Grade: A- “Colorblind” Warner Brothers 11 tracks 44:23
I will be playing this record at Mach 10 in my car stereo (with the windows closed, of course).
“Deliver Me” and “Homecoming” has some major funk while Robert’s steel guitar on “Angels” is way too cool. I hope the band’s cover of the Doobie Brothers’ “Jesus is Just Alright” becomes a radio single. It’s a faithful, but updated, rendition and the extended jam is a nice touch. Eric Clapton plays and sings on the song as well.
The largely instrumental “Thankful ‘N Thoughtful” would fit nicely on Jonny Lange’s new record.
This may seem weird but this is the first, and only, record that I bought in 2006. A couple of days after Christmas, I was wandering around at the mall in a major bookstore looking for this disk (I had a coupon!). I went through the store’s CCM shelves but it wasn’t there. Next, I went to the Blues area. Nope. OK, perhaps it’s in the Pop/Rock area. Of course that’s where I found it. Makes sense to me? I think not.
