Having just finished reading CCM’s article on the state of Christian hip-hop (MAR, 2007), I find myself more aware of the trappings of trying to categorize rap and hip-hop in the sense of a Christian market, however, I would still contend that the Grits are one of the more recognized and respected Christian hip-hop acts.

Having to jump industry and radio hurdles is just one thing.  Another is expecting a un-hip-educated reviewer as myself trying to analyze and review said hip-hop.  With that on the table, I can only say that the Grits have consistently produced quality hip-hop with relevant messages.  Not being a true hip-hop fan though, I don’t know if everyone appreciates the smooth rhymes that Bonafide and Coffee harmonize on.  That is the key element that I have always appreciated about their music.  That and the sometimes heavy back beat that aches to be pounded out on the sub-woofer.

The Grits have a total of eight albums to date, with two Grammy nominations, three Dove awards, and a Billboard Video Award.  Their home page is a redirect to their official MySpace page - http://www.myspace.com/officialgrits
