Kenny & Amanda Smith Band “Tell Someone” Rebel Records 13 tracks @ 39:43 Grade = A-
I enjoy many different genres of music. I don’t hear a lot of bluegrass in CCM; it’s not real easy to find in my part of the country. This record comes recommended.
Winner of the International Bluegrass Music Associations’ “Emerging Artist of the Year” award in 2003, this group has three releases under its belt. “Tell Someone” is its first all gospel music recording.
Kenny Smith says, “In our shows about 25-percent of what we do is gospel songs and those wind up being the most requested ones. . . . Some of our fans come up to us after our shows and they’ll ask if we’re Christians. They know we’re different. With this album, it’s a dream of ours to share our faith.”
I really enjoyed the up-tempo numbers, including “Shoutin’Time,” “Someday Soon,” “Stepping on the Clouds,” and “A Great Big Hand.” These songs feature Amanda Smith on lead vocals.
“One More Chance, Lord” has the line “I’m through with Satan.” You can actually understand the lyrics on this record but I miss having that reference in the linear notes.
This record is not only uplifting, but fun, in a foot-tapping sort of way.
