Breakin’ the Bondage Blues Band A Place Called Calvary B4 Music Grade – B+
“A Place Called Calvary” is the second release from the consortium of blues musicians and worshipers known as Breakin’ the Bondage Blues Band (BFour). The band takes the blues out of “the blues” with their positive message; however, they don’t loose any of the funk and soul that defines the blues musically.
Rev. McCarton stated that the band changed up their style a bit, by painting their new album with a more blues-rock sound rather than the traditional Chicago style blues of their debut. Her further stated, the band wanted to appeal the fans of Eric Clapton and Stevie Ray Vaughn as well as the traditionalist.
The CD was co-produced by Rev. Bob McCarton and guitarist Rhett Tyler. Tyler’s guitar playing gives the album that Clapton like sound with delicate fills and ripping leads. The new style is most prominent in tracks like “Born In the End Times,” and “Messin’ With God’s Kid.” To steal a phrase from their debut, this is havin’ church!
“A Place Called Calvary” is a very spirited album and in my opinion, the blues are under represented in CCM. The CD can be purchased through their official web site at www.bfour.org. And for a limited time, you can save $5.00 by letting Rev. McCarton know that you heard about them through Alpha Omega News. Simply write “Alpha Omega News” in the notes of your check and take $5 off of the original CD price of $20.00.
