Cherie Adams “The Sweet Life” Dolce Vita Entertainment 11 tracks @ 50:26 Grade B-
Cherie Adams sang with Avalon for a number of years. She has a new distribution agreement with TAG Artists. This is essentially her 2005 independent solo debut. Fans of Tammy Trent and Natalie Grant may want to check out this disk of mostly mellow A/C music.
While Cherie is an excellent vocalist, one of the pleasant surprises on this record is her writing. She has written, or co-written, eight of the eleven songs here.
“Water” is inspired by Matthew 14:25-29 and centers on the theme of obedience. It also features some of the strongest production values on the record. I like the thought in the chorus of “Something About the Rain;” “How your grace came pouring down, on thirsty ground inside of me.”
“Funny” is not “funny ha ha;” rather it’s about the human sense of irony in being at peace during a time of grief. “Grieve for You” centers on the every real sadness when those near you turn away from Christ.
I also liked the theme in “The Other Woman,” which is universal. In the linear notes, Adams says the song, written by Wendy Wills, “reminds me to strive to be more pleasing to the Lord in everything I do. . .and say.”
Given her strengths as a vocalist and writer, I hope we hear from Cherie Adams again.
