            You’ve no doubt heard “By His Wounds,” which has dominated the Inspirational song charts at Radio and Records throughout April.  I’m going to suggest that it isn’t even the best track on this outstanding record of roots and bluegrass-tinged music.

            “He Will Rejoice,’ Waters Gone By,” and especially the title track and “Alter of God” are all excellent.  The title track is sung by Candi Pearson-Shelton.  Her vocals remind me of Christy Nockels, late of Watermark. I love the harmonica at the start of Josh Bates’ “Alter of God.”   Michael W. Smith’s “Come, Worship the King” is one of his better recordings in recent years.

            This record is literally an all-star line-up of Christian performers.  Besides the aforementioned, there’s Mac Powell of Third Day, Steven Curtis Chapman, Brian Littrell, Mark Hall of Casting Crowns, David Crowder, and several more.

            How did this line-up come together for this record?  According to the linear notes, Executive Producer David Nasser says, “through friendship and a common passion for God’s Word.  And the main thing that has united us together: a desire to celebrate and submit to scripture.”
