Geoff Moore
“Speak to me”
Rocketown Reocrds
10 tracks @ 49:48
Grade = A

            Geoff Moore is one of those CCM veterans whose music I just haven’t been able to pay a lot of attention to, but his first record for Rocketown is must have.  Fans of Shaun Groves and PFR will find this record worth playing as Moore writes intelligent lyrics with a modern sound.

            Rocketown President Don Donahue says, “Geoff as an artist defies
demographics. . .his songs have a timelessness that defies trends ”  I agree.  Most age groups will enjoy this record.

Moore says the album’s title is more of a lifestyle.  “We live in a noisy world.  I want to desire to hear God’s voice so much that I will wait and listen no matter what.”  In that context it strikes me as a little odd that the song itself, “Speak To Me,” is not contemplative but joyous

Through his work with Compassion International, Moore says that the song “Every Single One” has been in the making for 20 years.  “He’s living with the poor, I’ve found Jesus, He’s easy to ignore.”

One of my favorite singers, Christy Nockels, joins Moore on the chorus to “When I Get Where I’m Going.”  Kendall Payne sings with Moore on a wonderful version of “He Knows My Name.”

I’m used to hearing “This Is My Father’s World” banged out on a pipe organ.  Moore’s version is subdued but true.

            Moore was inspired to write the record’s final track, “Erase,” after a visit to Rwanda a year ago.  He says, “I have traveled all over the world, to the poorest places but Rwanda tore me down.  If it ever seemed that God could have made a mistake, it seemed to me it was there among those beautiful people.  But I have thrown my life into a relationship with God, who I believe, does what he wants and knows what He’s doing.  The problem is with me.  I wanted to close the album with a plea to be more like Jesus.”

There is a surprise respire at the end of this excellent record.

            Moore says, “I believe this is what God has called me to do as my life’s work: to write and record songs that make Him known.”
