All Star United I love the music on this fifth release from the Grammy-nominated band. Ian Eskelin says the record has some recurring themes, “This idea that God’s light is most visible through us when we’re shattered shows up repeatedly. It’s that paradox of strength of weakness, joy in sorrow, riches in poverty tat, ultimately, can only be described as the movement of grave.” However, I was disappointed in the generally generic lyrics. “Jesus on the Radio” is, ironically, about trying to find Christian music on the radio. For most of the songs on this record, a non-Christian is going to have a hard time finding Jesus, period. I did like the lyric “I need your sound To come down and drown The static in my heart.” “The Song of the Year” is both hysterical and dead-on target in its viewpoint; “It’s the song of the year, But God’s still unimpressed With our radio success.” “Let’s Rock Tonight” reminded me of Ian Hunter, but that’s another matter. Other than Ian Eskelin, I have no idea who any of the other members are in this group. Note the running time for this record. Mandy Collinger-Parsons of Savvy Media Solutions did a very thorough job of supplying information for this record. - Rob S. |
