Caedmon’s Call

Overdressed

INO Records

Grade – A

This album warrants an A in my grade book even though the style of the album is much like all of their previous CD’s. It is in my opinion, their style and sound that set them apart as a band to begin with. The main reason that it can work time and again is because the center of the bands success is their song writing.

And yes, the return of Derek Webb helps too.  Although both Derek Webb and Caedmon’s Call were making great music independently, it still feels right that he is with the group again.

Always socially conscious, Caedmon’s Call gives a voice to the weak and the tired.  “Overdressed” is no different in this respect, as the songs connect with the listener in a wide variety of situations.  The title track itself strikes a cord with me as I think about my works versus my faith.  As Webb explains, “It talks about how, if I’m honest, all my best attempts at being good are a real mess.  Just like the Garden of Eden, I try to cover myself with so many different things.  So, when I’m with Him, I feel so overdressed.”

The bands web site goes into great detail about the meaning of the songs and what the amount of effort that went into each piece.
