A Love Hate Masquerade

Flicker Records

Grade – C+

Prior to the release of “Apparitions of Melody: The Dead Letters Edition,” I had not followed this band very closely.  However, through MySpace, I was privy to some of the line-up changes occurring in the band.  More recently, with the re-release of Apparitions, my interest was peaked.  With “A Love Hate Masquerade,” I find my interest waning.  In general the CD is full of radio-friendly sensible tunes that are all quite the same.  While listening to the CD I did not get overly excited until late in the CD, on the song “Fiction.” I quickly remembered though that “Fiction” was previously released on the re-release of Apparitions.  In a time of transition and rebuilding, I am satisfied that what Kids in the Way are doing, and although “A Love Hate Masquerade” is an average CD, it is taking them in a good direction for the future.
