The Bellamy Brothers Jesus Is Coming Curb Records Grade – A
Country and gospel have always gone hand-in-hand and for the most part it has always inspired some sort of recollection of what life use to be like “back when.” Which brings to mind the lead track called “Drug Problem.” I too can recall being drug to church, weddings, and other family events with no desire of being there.
Now as a parent, I can finally see the value in those times and I long for a time when children showed more reverence for family elders. Maybe it’s there, but what I see are kids engrossed in their portable games and MP3 players instead of partaking in conversation with adults, fascinated at the rich family history. Anyway, off the soapbox.
“Jesus Is Coming” is a good mix of country and gospel from the respected Bellamy Brothers. Most of the songs are original and all are inspiring and gospel orientated. My favorites include “Drug Problem,” the psychedelic soundscape of “Grandma’s God,” and lastly “Lord Help Me Be the Kind of Person (My Dog Thinks I Am).” There are few who know our true selves better than our pets. The album has character and I admire the songwriting and its ability to make you think.
