Steven Curtis Chapman

This Moment

Sparrow Records

Grade – A

It has been nearly three years since SCC last full release and since then there have emerged some new names on the esteemed Songwriter of the Year list.  However, that does not mean Chapman has nothing left to say (or sing about).

With the release of his sixteenth studio album, “This Moment,” Chapman lets us know his platform is still strong.  At the same time, as a person, anyone who has met or read about his family and ministry know that the awards and accolades are a mere byproduct and not the drive of the mission.

On “This Moment” Chapman focuses on family, worship, and a Christian world view.   Evidence of this can be found in the track “Yours,” which is bound to be a worship staple for contemporary church worship services.  Secondly, my favorite song, “Cinderella” hits home for the families.  The song is a reminder that “this moment” is most important when it comes to family, or as the publicity states, “enjoy every second and phase.”  Another tribute to families is the song “Little Heartbeat at a Time,” which is a song for mothers and a tribute to the difference they make in raising their children.

I have to throw in a word about “Something Crazy” as well as it too is a signature Steven Curtis Chapman song along the lines of “Wake the Neighbors.”  It’s a great song and very upbeat and fun.

Lastly, Chapman is driving an initiative called “Giving a Little Changes A Lot” and on the “Live In This Moment” tour he will be collecting donations for his continued work regarding adoption.  The collections will be used to assist others with the financial burdens of adoption.

You can find more information on the CD and the tour on Chapman’s official web site at http://stevencurtischapman.com/.
