Billy Joe Shaver “Everybody’s Brother” Compadre Records 11 tracks @ Grade = B
Produced by John Carter Cash, this record has a definite “Man in Black” vibe.
The best tracks are the numerous duets Billy Joe Shaver shares, including the exceptionally nasty “Get Thee Behind Me Satan.” John Anderson’s growling vocals are superb. I also really liked the Native American opening to the title track. I wish the rest of the song carried through on that thread.
Other singers include Marty Stuart, Kris Kristofferson, Bill Miller and Johnny Cash.
Mr. Shaver’s years do show, at times, as his voice wobbles on the solo tracks.
