The Myriad

The Myriad
With Arrows, With Poise
KOCH Records
Grade – B

The Myriad has been generating a lot of excitement lately with their MTV appearances and by wining the “Dew Circuit Breakout” prize. Back in 2005, I was musically awakened by You Can’t Trust a Ladder release (link to review). Around that time,I also met the band at a local festival. Every time I walked through the merchandise tent the band was sitting at their table greeting and talking to fans. I had several occasions to talk with the band and to watch their interactions with the general public. The work ethic displayed by the band was amazing and I believe that aside from the great music, this work ethic is a big part of their success.

With Arrows, With Poise, continues on the same vein as their last release with an emotive sound and deep lyrical content. Without lyrics and a guide, the songs may be difficult to interpret. However, the writing is thought provoking and the eclectic groove makes the album very interesting. The PR notes state that the lyrical themes are hope, doubt, heartache, and love.

As with The Myriad's first release, With Arrows, With Poise is an album that will take time to grow on you. Unless of course you’re a part of the MTV crowd that helped to boost The Myriad to the top of the selection for what MTV touted as the ‘next big thing,’ then you probably don’t care what anyone thinks – you’re already on the bandwagon.
